Composition
Zipol 20 Tablet: Each tablet contains Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate USP equivalent to Elemental Zinc 20 mg.
Zipol Syrup: Each 5 ml syrup contains Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate USP equivalent to Elemental Zinc 10 mg.
Pharmacology
Zinc is an essential trace mineral, which means that it must be obtained from the diet since the body cannot make enough. Next to iron, zinc is the most abundant trace mineral in the body. Stored primarily in muscle, zinc is also found in high concentrations in red and white blood cells, the retina of the eye, bones, skin, kidneys, liver, and pancreas. Some of the symptoms of zinc deficiency include loss of appetite, poor growth, weight loss, impaired taste or smell, poor wound healing, skin abnormalities (such as acne, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis), hair loss, night blindness, hypogonadism and delayed sexual maturation, white spots on the fingernails and feelings of depression.
Indication
Zipol is indicated for the treatment of recurrent respiratory tract infections, loss of appetite, severe growth retardation, deformed bone formation, impaired immunological response, acrodermatitis enteropathica, defective and delayed wound healing, malabsorption, night blindness and mental disturbance.
Dosage & Administration
Children under 10 kg: 1 tablet or 2 teaspoonful’s daily after food.
Children (10-30 kg): 1 tablet or 2 teaspoonful’s 1-3 times daily or as directed by the physician.
Adults & Children over 30 kg: 2 tablets or 4 teaspoonful’s 1-3 times daily or as directed by the physician.
Zinc supplements are most effective if they are taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. However, if Zinc supplements cause stomach upset, they may be taken with a meal.
Contraindication
It is contraindicated in those who are hypersensitive to any component of a zinc containing supplement.
Precaution
In acute renal failure zinc accumulation may occur; so dose adjustment needed.
Side Effects
Zinc may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, heartburn and gastritis.
Use in Pregnancy & Lactation
The safety of this product in human pregnancy has not been established. Zinc crosses the placenta and is present in breast milk. However, Zinc supplement can be taken on Physician's advice if condition demand.
Drug Interaction
Zinc may inhibit the absorption of concurrently administered Tetracycline’s, when both are being given.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fainting and shortness of breath. If overdose is suspected, then contact with local poison control center or emergency room may be needed.
Keep away from light & moisture and store below 30o C. Keep out of the reach of children.
